What Are Elvis Stamps?

The United States Postal Service issued a commemorative Elvis stamp in January 1993. Several other countries have also issued commemorative stamps featuring images of Elvis.

The USPS made the decision to issue a commemorative Elvis stamp in 1992. They narrowed down the image decision to two possibilities — a picture of a young Elvis in the 1950s and a picture of a more aged Elvis from 1973. The Postal Service solicited votes from Americans, and the image of young Elvis was the winner. The Postal Service produced 500 million Elvis stamps, and it became the best-selling commemorative stamp in the country’s history.
