What Do You Eat When You Have No Teeth?
Some common foods that can be eaten by people without teeth are pureed fruits, steamed or boiled vegetables and soft proteins like cottage cheese. These foods are ideal for infants, the elderly or anyone in between.
Pureed fruits are a frequent choice for those who don’t have teeth because of the various sweet flavors of different fruits. Simply take a raw fruit, wash it to remove any dirt or debris and peel it. Cut the fruit into small cubes or strips and place them into a food processor or blender. Pulse for a few minutes to produce a puree with a smooth consistency. Make sure there are no hard or large chunks of fruit left.
Cooked vegetables are another popular choice because they are full of important vitamins and minerals. Broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes and carrots are some vegetables that can be easily obtained for steaming. Begin by boiling a pot of water with a pinch of salt for flavor. Wash and cut the desired vegetables into bite-sized cubes. As the desired outcome is a soft, mushy food, multiple vegetables can be cooked at the same time. Once the vegetables are cooked, allow them to cool before serving.
Cottage cheese is also ideal because it does not require any chewing. It can be served as is, or with some fruit jam for a sweeter taste.
