What Are the Dimensions of a Large Suitcase?
The dimensions of a large suitcase are between 28 and 32 inches long and approximately 19 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Large suitcases are designed to carry at least one week’s worth of clothing for travelers, and this type of luggage goes in the cargo area of airplanes. U.S. airlines restrict suitcases to 50 pounds or less, as of November 2014.
Large suitcases have an internal capacity of approximately 21 to 26 gallons, or between 2.8 to 3.5 cubic feet. Height measurements are taken from the bottom of the wheels to the top of the case when the handle is down instead of fully retracted. Luggage must be less than 62 inches long for airplane usage.
