What Are the Dimensions of a Fashion Runway?
Last Updated Apr 7, 2020 1:45:04 AM ET

A typical fashion runway is 4 feet wide and 2/3 the length of the room. However, dimensions vary depending upon designers' preferences, clothing styles, the number of models, the setting and the overall vision for the show.
Some clothing lines require wider runways. For example, models in gowns are often not able to pass each other comfortably on a stage that is only 4 feet wide. Wedding and prom fashions are often presented on runways that are 8 feet wide.
The classic version of a runway is a slightly raised "T" shape. A black or customized backdrop typically appears at the beginning of the runway. Circular, square and "I-shaped" runways are also common.
