What Do the Different Symbols on an LG Cell Phone Screen Indicate?

The symbols on an LG cell phone screen are icons that represent user information or function options that are available, including the cell phone’s status, user notifications, software applications and menu locations. A complete icon glossary usually appears under a “settings and tools” menu on the cell phone.

The status bar, which is located at the top of every LG cell phone screen, contains information on the current operating condition of the cell phone. Status icons indicate many conditions, including the battery charge level, the state of network connections and signal strengths, GPS signal availability and external device connections.

Notification icons alert users to events that have already transpired, or are currently occurring, on the cell phone, including new email or messages received, missed calls, alarms that are set, messages that failed to send or that music is playing. These icons also typically appear in the status bar, however, some can appear in different places on the home screen or appear as the whole screen, such as an incoming call.

Basic application icons, such as the system web browser or telephone dialer, are also on the home screen. The amount of these types of icons generally increases as the user adds software applications to the cell phone.

Menu icons allow users to access internal information and controls, as well as additional available applications.
