During the ancient Olympics, only warm-weather events took place.

Because of this limitation, only a few people were able to participate. The modern Olympics is open to all types of participants.
During the ancient Olympics, only the male athletes were allowed to take part in the games. In the modern Olympics, both male and female athletes are allowed to participate.
