How Do You Get Diesel Fuel Out of Clothes?
It is important to remove any traces of diesel fuel from clothing to decrease flammability. You should never wash the garment with other clothing. To erase traces of diesel fuel, you need a solvent-based stain removal product or heavy-duty liquid detergent and baking soda.
Pretreat the garment
Diesel fuel is oil-based, so it is necessary to remove the stain with a solvent-based stain remover. If you don’t have a manufactured stain remover, applying heavy-duty liquid detergent and some slight pressure by rubbing is an effective pre-treatment. You do not have to apply a large amount of pressure when rubbing; doing so will not make much difference and it is likely that you will ruin your garment.
Wash the garment
Wash the garment in a washing machine using the warmest water setting allowed for the fabric. Use the normal amount of detergent for the product to avoid unnecessary soap stains. Carefully smell the garment to detect any gasoline stains before placing it into the dryer to prevent a possible fire.
Use extra measures for remaining odors
If you find that the garment still has a faint smell of fuel after washing the garment, soak the item in water mixed with one-half to 1 cup of baking soda before washing. Otherwise, add 1 cup of non-sudsing ammonia to warm water in the washing machine for at least two hours. Wash the item again, and inspect the garment for any remaining smells. Repeat the process to eliminate any fuel remains.
