Wayne Gretzky attended elementary school in Brantford, Ontario and took high school courses in Sault Ste. Marie. He turned pro before he graduated from high school.
Instead of attending college, Wayne Gretzky played professional hockey with the World Hockey Association. In 1978, he started his career with the Indianapolis Racers. Just 2 months later, the Edmonton Oilers signed him to a 21-year contract. In the 1983-84 season, Gretzky led the team to their first Stanley Cup, with the same occurring in the next two seasons. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Kings, followed by the St. Louis Blues and later, the New York Rangers, where he retired from the sport in 1999.
