How Did Drew Brees Get His Scar?
Last Updated Mar 27, 2020 9:59:25 PM ET
The mark on Drew Brees’ right cheek is not a scar, but a birthmark. His parents told him the mark was a spot where an angel had kissed him.
When Brees was 3, his parents consulted a pediatrician about having the birthmark removed. When told that it was harmless, they opted to leave it. Although he was often teased about it as a child, Brees saw the birthmark as something that made him unique. He believes that dealing with the harassment at school made him mentally tough and prepared him for a career as an NFL quarterback. While Brees occasionally visits a dermatologist to make sure the birthmark is safe, he says he would never remove it because it is a part of who he is.
