Anna Stanley filed for divorce from Charles Stanley in 1993, according to reports from CNN. The divorce became final in 2000. The divorce ended a 44 year marriage.
Charles Stanley’s divorce from his wife was controversial because, as an evangelist and the founder of In Touch Ministries, he preached against divorce and advocated a strict view of marriage. His church, First Baptist, maintained a policy against allowing divorced men to serve as pastors or deacons. According to Baptist Press, when Stanley’s divorce became final, First Baptist Church chose to allow him to remain as pastor. As of February 2015, Charles Stanley remains the pastor of First Baptist Church.
