A diablo sandwich is a hot and hearty sandwich with beef and seasoning served over toasted buns. It is noted for having been mentioned in the movie “Smokey and the Bandit” as ordered by Buford T. Justice.
The diablo sandwich contains browned ground beef, taco seasoning, whole kernel corn and diced tomato combined together. Lettuce is placed on the plate followed by open toasted buns. The meat and sauce mixture is poured on top of the buns followed by sour cream.
Some people choose to make the sandwich extra spicy with a hot sauce in lieu of the taco seasoning. In the movie, the diablo sandwich is served with Dr. Pepper.
