Why Is Determination Important?

Determination is considered a laudable and coveted personality trait because it indicates that individuals are motivated to succeed, which translates to them getting tasks done and accomplishing goals. People who are determined by nature are generally self-motivated, and have a strong internal drive to accomplish success, whether via short-term goals or long-term objectives. The trait of determination is often associated with similar characteristics of resilience, which is the power to overcome setbacks rather than give into them.

In addition to going hand-in-hand with resilience, determination is also related to the qualities of perseverance, which is the ability to keep going even when times are tough, and persistence. Determination can show through in many aspects of life, including personal hobbies and sports such as running marathons and competing at a high level in field hockey, football or tennis. Determination, in these instances, shows a willingness and ability to achieve success and overcome quandaries, such as fatigue and frustration. Many individuals achieve great levels of success in academic fields and in sports or hobbies through determination and motivation, but pure talent certainly plays a contributing role as well. Sometimes, people lack extraordinary talent, but accomplish great feats through sheer willpower and determination.
