Desktop publishing applications are used to create and design the page layouts for both printed and online publications, such as brochures, books, magazines and newspapers. They enable users to collect graphics, text and other materials that can be interactively rearranged to create digital files.
Desktop publishing includes a combination of selecting text layouts and fonts, creating page layouts, graphic design, text editing and eventually printing or publication. Despite the fact that regular word processors can be used to create desktop publications, specialized desktop publishing programs offer more typographical features. Common examples of desktop publishing packages include Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Publisher.
