From What Is Crisco Shortening Made?

Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening is made out of soybean oil, fully hydrogenated palm oil, partially hydrogenated palm and soybean oils, mono and diglycerides, TBHQ and citric acid. There are other kinds of Crisco Shortening products, however, like Crisco Baking Stick All-Vegetable Shortening. These products contain the same ingredients.

Another Crisco product, Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening, contains slightly different ingredients. It is made out of soybean oil, full hydrogenated palm oil, partially hydrogenated palm and soybean oils, mono and diglycerides, natural and artificial flavor, TBHQ, citric acid and beta carotene for added color. Related products, including Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Butter Flavor Shortening have the same ingredients as the Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening Product. The baking sticks contain easy-to-measure sticks for added cooking convenience.

Crisco’s All-Vegetable Shortening product is popular because it offers 50 percent less saturated fat than regular butter. It doesn’t contain trans-saturated fat, making it a healthy option for baking and frying dishes. It has other health benefits, such as being a partial source of vitamin E and antioxidants. It’s also an excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid omega-3 fatty acids. It is not intended to be used as a spread. In addition to baking sticks, Crisco Shortening is available in 1-pound, 3-pound and 6-pound sizes.
