What Are Some Facts About the Connie Smith and Marty Stuart Marriage?

Connie Smith and Marty Stuart were married on July 8, 1997 after three years of dating. What was initially a professional commitment with each other for Smith’s eponymous comeback album turned into an extraordinary romance. Smith is Stuart’s second wife while Stuart is Connie Smith’s fourth husband and is seventeen years her junior.

Connie Smith was already a well-known country artist when she first met Marty Stuart at one of her concerts in Mississippi. Stuart was only twelve years old at the time. Twenty eight years later, Stuart, a country artist himself, acted as the main producer as Smith recorded a solo studio album titled Connie Smith on contract with Warner Bros. Records. They co-wrote most of the album that went on to receive positive reviews.

It was thirteen years before Smith released another solo album, Long Line of Heartaches, which was also produced by Marty Stuart and listed five songs written by the couple. In November of the same year, Smith joined the cast of The Marty Stuart Show, a program featuring country music performed by Stuart, Smith and radio celebrity, Eddie Stubbs. To date, Stuart and Smith have co-written more than 40 songs together and sung a few rare duets.
