What Is a Congressional Inquiry?
A congressional inquiry is a correspondence from a congressman to a federal agency to check on the status of a proceeding. Every citizen has the right to contact his congressman to ask for assistance when he feels an issue he has with a federal department is not receiving timely attention.
The congressman may contact the agency by phone or by written correspondence to do a status check on the matter. A congressional inquiry does not guarantee a decision in favor of the person requesting the inquiry, but it may help the person receive a speedier answer. When a citizen requests such an inquiry, he provide a reasonable explanation of why he needs intercession. A typical example of a request for congressional inquiry is when the person is seeking disability benefits from the Social Security Administration.
