A tow package generally consists of a hitch, electrical connections, upgraded suspension, brakes, drivetrain and transmission. These features help a vehicle handle the additional weight of the load.
Electrical connections are pre-wired and placed next to the hitch. The suspension system has stronger shocks and heavier springs and the brakes have larger discs or drums for improved safety. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, a cooling system is installed to keep the transmission from overheating from the additional stress placed on the system. The drivetrain is adjusted to provide more torque to the drive wheels and reduce wear on the engine and transmission.
