What Companies Does the Mormon Church Own?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owns the Deseret Management Corp., which is the church’s holding company with such diverse businesses in its portfolio as a publishing company, a TV station, a newspaper and radio stations. Deseret Book is an inspirational publishing company that produces a print and online magazine specifically for members of the Mormon church as well as values-based content for non-Mormons.

In media, the Mormon church owns Deseret Digital Media, a company that produces content for its multiple website properties and oversees their operations. With regard to print, the church owns Utah’s oldest daily newspaper, titled “Deseret News,” which has been continually published since 1850. Bonneville International Corp. is the church’s broadcasting company, and it has about 10 radio stations, as of 2015, that it owns and operates in Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Seattle and Phoenix.

The church owns the Beneficial Financial Group, formerly the church’s life insurance arm known as the Beneficial Life Insurance Company but now focused on financial services. Also in the finance area, it owns Ensign Peak Advisors, an investment advisory firm.

The church owns the Temple Square Hospitality Corp., which owns and operates several restaurants and provides catering services for weddings and other special occasions.
