Common problems with the 2002 Ford Ranger include engine problems, transmission problems and exterior lighting issues. The most common engine problem was the vehicle speed control, which resulted in a recall of 4.5 million vehicles.
Additional recalls of the 2002 Ford Ranger were made for exterior lighting, headlight and power train transmission issues. Power train transmission issues affected at least 1,096 Ford Ranger vehicles, based on recall data. The power train is also the number-one transmission complaint made to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Exterior lighting problems resulted in 27,176 recalls, while headlight issues caused 42,540 recalls, as of June 2015.
