Common flu symptoms include a fever that is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, chills and headaches, a dry cough and nasal congestion, according to Mayo Clinic. Many people also experience fatigue, weakness and muscle aches, especially in the arms, legs and back.
In most cases, the only necessary treatment for the flu is bedrest and plenty of fluids, states Mayo Clinic. In some cases, a doctor may prescribe an antiviral medicine, especially if a patient is at risk for developing complications associated with the flu. In these cases, it is best to see a doctor as soon as possible, as fast treatment can shorten the duration of the flu and decrease the risks of complications.
