A color poem is an exercise that allows children to write their first poems by focusing on a single color. Children can also create graphic designs using the color or print the poem in appropriately colored ink.
To write a color poem, children start by choosing a color. They then can brainstorm items that come in the chosen color or feelings that are associated with the color. To write a color poem, the children then start each line with the color, listing some of the elements they brainstormed. From there, the children expand on the words and phrases to turn the list into a poem.
