What Clothes Did Ancient Egyptians Wear?

Ancient Egyptians wore linen clothing that was most often white in color and went barefoot or wore leather sandals. Men traditionally only wore tunics or skirt-like clothing that covered them from the waist down while women wore full-length dresses. Children did not traditionally wear clothing until around the age of 6.

The Egyptians used white linen for most of their clothing because of the lightweight texture and light-reflecting properties that were especially conducive to the local hot, arid conditions. Those people who could not afford leather sandals would sometimes use footwear made out of papyrus or palm leaves. Headdresses, jewelry and makeup were also used.
