How Do You Clear Your History of Browsed Web Pages?

Web pages on the Internet cache data on users’ computers to expedite loading of the pages. Clearing your browsing history helps to free up disk space on your computer and enhances your privacy online.

Microsoft Edge This is the default browser for Windows 10. Most new computers have Microsoft Edge instead of Internet Explorer. To view your browser history on Microsoft Edge:

  • Open the browser application and then use the Ctrl H keyboard shortcut to open the browser history menu
  • Alternatively, click the hub button on the upper right hand of the browser window
  • Click the history icon
  • All the pages you visited will be on the history menu in chronological order
    • To clear your browser history:

      • Click clear all history on the history menu
      • Check all the data that you would like to be cleared including the browsing history
      • Click clear to erase selected data
        • Note: You can also set the browser to clear history after closing the application. To do this, click “Always clear this when I close the browser” to turn on the setting.

          Mozilla Firefox To view your browsing history on Firefox:

          • Click the history button on the browser window or press Ctrl H on the keyboard
          • Alternatively, press Alt to open the menu bar and then click view, then sidebar, then click history
            • To clear your browsing history:

              • Click the menu button and select history
              • Check clear recent history, which will open a drop down menu
              • Choose how far back you want to clear your browsing history and then click Clear Now
                • Google Chrome

                  To view your browsing history:

                  • Press Ctrl H to open the history menu
                  • Alternatively, type chrome://history on your Google Chrome browser
                  • You can also click the menu button on the top right side of the browser and then choose History
                    • To clear your browsing data:

                      • Click the Menu button on the top right side of the browser window, choose More Tools and the click Clear browsing data
                      • Alternatively, press Ctrl Shift Del on your keyboard
                      • Select how far back you would like to clear your browser data and click Clear Browsing data
                        • To clear browser history on your iPhone or Android phone

                          • Open the Google Chrome application on your iPhone or iPad
                          • Go to the URL bar at the top of the screen and then click view search history
                          • Click Clear ALL at the top right of the screen
                            • Opera To view your browsing history:

                              • Click the Opera menu button on the upper left side of the screen
                              • Choose History and then open the history tab
                              • Alternatively, you can press Ctrl H on your keyboard to access the browser history
                                • To clear your browsing history:

                                  • Open the history tab
                                  • Choose how far back you want to clear your browsing history
                                  • Click Clear browsing data
                                    • Safari To view your browsing history:

                                      • Click the menu at the top of the screen and then click Show All History
                                        • To clear your browsing history:

                                          • Open the Show All History tab
                                          • You may delete individual items on your history tab, selected items, or entire history
                                          • To delete entire browser history, click Clear History
