How Do You Clean Rubber Bands on Braces?
If you wear braces, you likely have to wear rubber bands as well. If so, they should be cleaned or changed after every meal. If a rubber band breaks, it should be replaced immediately. To wash the rubber bands, you need a salt water solution and a small container. The process of cleaning them takes just a few minutes.
-
Prepare the cleaning mix
The mixture used to clean the rubber bands consists of 2 tablespoons of salt mixed into 1/4 cup of warm water. This mixture can be placed into any size dish, although it is recommended to use a small, shallow dish to make the cleaning process easier.
-
Clean the rubber bands
After preparing the mixture, remove the rubber bands from your mouth, and place them in the saltwater. Soak the rubber bands for approximately 5 minutes. As the rubber bands are soaking, brush your teeth or rinse your mouth with mouthwash.
-
Put the rubber bands back in place
After 5 minutes have passed, rub the bands between your fingers to remove any remaining particles. After they are fully cleaned, rinse them with cool water to remove any remaining mixture. Once they have been fully rinsed, place them back inside your mouth securely.
