Was Chuck Swindoll Involved in a Scandal?

Chuck Swindoll was the senior pastor at the First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, California, when his church expelled elder James C. Truxton, who had admitted to molesting several young church members. His expulsion occurred in October 1992.
Swindoll was not involved in the child abuse, but as senior pastor, he was responsible for handling the case. The news of the abuse was a shock to Swindoll and his congregation because Truxton, the man at the center of the scandal, was a highly regarded member of the congregation and had been an active member of the church for several years.
