Is It Cheaper to Do Laundry at Night?

It is cheaper to do laundry during off-peak hours. Off-peak hours are generally during the night time, but they can be during the daytime at weekends.

Most electric companies in the United States have off-peak hours from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. on weekdays. Off-peak hours also occur during the weekends. From 9 p.m. on Friday night until 7 a.m. on Monday morning, electric rates can be reduced by as much as 40 percent of the regular rate.

People can use several methods to save money doing their laundry, but picking the right time to do it is one of the easiest. For people who want to save electrical money on their laundry process, it is important that it be done during the night time hours or at the weekend. This will not actually save the amount of electric that is used during the laundry process, but the rates will be cheaper.

For some people, it may seem like a daunting task to begin doing laundry only at night. It is easier than many people think and requires only a small amount of planning. Because rates go down at 9 p.m., it is a good idea to begin laundry at this time. Most laundry can be done in 2 hours from start to finish, allowing the process to be done at 11 p.m. Doing one load of laundry per night will often not cause a person to be awake any later than normal.
