According to Business Insider, the Fox network originally went by the name “FBC,” for Fox Broadcasting Company. This name was intended to model the big three competing networks, NBC, ABC and CBS. However, before its launch in 1987, executives decided to change the network’s name, modeling it after its parent film company, 20th Century Fox. The first TV show aired on the Fox network was “The Late Show.”
