What Causes Pain in the Middle of Your Stomach?

An intestinal obstruction or pancreatitis can cause pain in the middle of the stomach, according to the Mayo Clinic. Other causes include a blood clot or appendicitis.

Upper middle abdominal pain can also be caused by hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease or a heart attack. Lower middle abdominal pain can caused by ovarian cysts or endometriosis. Only a doctor can diagnose pain in the stomach accurately. Some causes of pain are more serious than others. If a person experiences a fever, vomiting, an inability to pass stools or failure to keep foods down, they should contact a doctor as soon as possible. If a person vomits blood or has trouble breathing, they should contact emergency help.
