What Causes a Cold Feeling in the Chest?

A cold feeling or sensation in the chest may be a symptom of one of many medical conditions, including chest injury, diabetes, alcohol-related neuropathy, hypothermia, neurological disease and environmental factors, such as reaction to water, soil and chemicals, as stated by Right Diagnosis. In order to correctly diagnose the cause of the cold sensation, a doctor may have to examine several other symptoms exhibited by a patient.

If, for example, the patient also shows symptoms, such as blurry vision, frequent thirst, extreme fatigue and frequent urination, this could be diagnosed as diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. A cold feeling with symptoms, such as lack of coordination, dizziness, hunger, nausea, trouble speaking and increased heart rate may indicate hypothermia, according to Mayo Clinic.
