The Frigidaire self-cleaning oven has a lock to prevent the door from being opened during the cleaning cycle. The oven door can become locked before and after the cleaning cycle. The method to unlock the oven door depends on whether the oven door has been locked in a closed or open position. If the door is locked open, hold the light switch, program the oven’s self-cleaning cycle, wait several seconds, cancel the self-cleaning cycle, wait several seconds again, and you are able to close the door. If the door is locked closed, unplug and re-plug the unit, and gently open the oven door. You can also try starting and canceling the self-cleaning cycle.

  1. Hold the light switch

If your oven door is locked open, press and hold down the light switch while you continue to work through the process of cancelling the lock on the door.

  2. Set the oven to self-clean

Program your Frigidaire oven to self-clean. Wait at least 20 seconds before you cancel the self-clean setting on the oven. Again wait for at least another 20 seconds. Release the light switch. You have now unlocked the open door and are able to close it.

  3. Unplug the oven

If your oven door has been locked in a closed position, unplug the oven unit from the wall outlet. Allow the oven to sit untouched for a minimum of five minutes. Reset the time on the oven clock, and carefully open the oven door you have unlocked.

  4. Set the oven to self-clean

An alternative process is to program the oven to self-clean for a maximum of 15 minutes, then cancel the remaining portion of the cleaning cycle. Allow the oven to cool before proceeding. You are now able to open the door as the lock has been released.
