Vicks VapoRub can be applied to feet, and it can be used to help treat nail fungus, states Mayo Clinic. Contrary to the opinion widely touted online, there is no evidence to suggest that putting Vicks VapoRub on feet at night can cure coughs, according to Health.com.
Vicks VapoRub is a topical ointment containing menthol, which does not improve air flow in people with nasal congestion, but it can make cold and cough sufferers feel better, reports WebMD.
When it comes to nail fungus, however, a study of 18 patients showed that 56 percent experienced some improvement of their symptoms while using Vicks VapoRub, while 17 percent saw no improvement, reports Mayo Clinic. To treat nail fungus with Vicks VapoRub, use a cotton swab to apply a small amount to the affected area daily.
