Malt vinegar can be used for cleaning. However, brown malt vinegar can stain and should not be used to clean all surfaces or fabrics. For most household cleaning projects, white distilled vinegar is better to use than malt vinegar.
While distilled white vinegar is better to use for general household cleaning, malt vinegar can be used to de-scale coffee pots and teapots. Rusted objects can be placed in a bowl of malt vinegar to help loosen and remove rust.
Malt vinegar can be used to clean windows and mirrors. Mix ½ gallon of clean water with 2 cups of malt vinegar, and spray the solution on crumpled newspaper. Use the damp newspaper to wipe down mirrors and windows.
