How Can I Type French Accents in Microsoft Word?

To type French accents in Microsoft Word, press Ctrl. Type the appropriate command, and then type the letter the accent mark is over.

  1. Type an acute accent

    Press the Ctrl key. Type an apostrophe. Release both keys, and type the letter “E.”

  2. Type a grave accent

    Press Ctrl, and click the “`” key. It is in the top left corner of the main section of the keyboard, next to the “1” key. Release both keys, and type the letter, which can be either “E,” “A” or “U.”

  3. Type a circumflex accent

    Press Ctrl and Shift. Click the “^” key. It is on the same key as the number six. Release both keys, and type the required vowel.

  4. Type a cédelle

    Press Ctrl. Type a comma. Release both keys, and type “C.”
