How Can You Troubleshoot a Whirlpool Freezer?
Troubleshoot a Whirlpool freezer by checking for common problems such as defrost drain problems, power supply problems and dirty condenser coils. Start by checking the obvious issues such as tripped circuit breakers before examining problems that are more complex.
If a Whirlpool freezer is not working, confirm that the power cord is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet. Reset or replace the circuit breaker or fuse as needed. If the freezer does not seem cold enough, and there is a clicking or humming noise, the compressor motor or start relay may be defective. A defective start relay makes the compressor to run intermittently or not at all. Replace a defective start relay, and if the problem continues, replace the condenser motor too.
If the Whirlpool freezer is not cooling, the condenser coil may be dirty. When condenser coils are coated with dust, lint and dirt, they are not able to dissipate heat efficiently, which affects the cooling. Dirty condenser coils can only be replaced. If the problem continues, examine the temperature control thermostat, and replace it if defective.
If the freezer is leaking water, it is possible that the defrost drain froze or is clogged. Ice buildup inside the freezer indicates a defective drain defroster. Replace it with a new one to resolve the problem.
