How Can I Get Rid of the Perm Smell in My Hair?
To get rid of the perm smell in your hair, use a tomato juice mask in the hair. If this does not work, follow this with a lemon juice solution. Removing the perm smell from the hair takes roughly 45 minutes and requires tomatoes and, possibly, lemon juice.

Prepare the tomato juice
Some commercial tomato juices contain dyes, which can stain the hair. Instead, peel several tomatoes, and place them in a food processor. Puree the tomatoes until they are liquid. The acid in the tomatoes removes the alkaline from the perm, which is the cause of the smell.

Apply the tomato mask
Pour the tomato juice onto the hair, and work it through each individual strand. If the perm is less than 48 hours old, be careful to not be rough with the hair as it is still recovering from the chemical process.

Rinse the tomato mask
Leave the tomato juice on the hair for 20 minutes. Rinse the hair with cool water. Do not shampoo newly permed hair as this can result in frizz.

Apply lemon juice
If the perm smell persists, follow the tomato mask with a lemon juice solution. Squeeze lemons until you have enough juice to saturate the hair. Apply the juice to your hair, making sure it evenly saturates all the strands.

Rinse the lemon juice
Let the lemon juice stay on the hair for 20 minutes. Rinse out completely.
