How Can You Reset a Three-Digit Combination Lock?

Resetting a three-digit combination lock involves pressing a button or moving the shackle into the proper position and resetting the established combination. Then, set a new combination that you should record or remember.

  1. Align the dial

Align each of the three dials so that they are set to the current combination. The factory default is 0-0-0, so use this combination if another combination has never been set for the lock.

  2. Set a new combination

Hold in the button on the bottom of the lock, then turn the dials to whichever combination you choose. On some models, there is no button on the bottom. In that instance, instead of pushing a button, rotate the shackle about 90 degrees, then press down on it.

  3. Release the button

Release the button on the bottom of the lock or pull up on the shackle in those models that do not have a button. Do so only after you have set the new combination.

  4. Record the combination

Write down the combination somewhere safe. If you don’t use the combination lock often, this allows you to have access to the combination if it is forgotten. To reset the combination again, repeat the first three steps.
