Free property deed records are available from state offices that are in charge of maintaining such records. According to Public Records Online Searches, offices that are in charge of public records vary by name according to state. Some offices may charge fees for records, while others are free to view.
Some of the names that public records offices use include county clerk, register of deeds, auditor and recorder. Select offices make records publicly available via online search. Records can then be accessed in person or through a site search by document name or last name.
These offices are also in charge of keeping records of liens, mortgages, powers of attorney and other important documents.
