As of 2015, Verizon Wireless offers free phones at no up-front cost if the customer agrees to a two-year commitment to one of its service plans. Several models are available, and orders can be placed online and shipped or picked up in a retail location.

Verizon Wireless offers a variety of free smartphones from Blackberry, LG, Motorola and HTC. It even offers the Samsung Gusto 3, a basic flip phone for those who prefer a minimalist approach to their mobile device. Without being forced to sacrifice quality, customers looking for a free phone have many options from which to choose.

To qualify for a free phone, customers must agree to keep service in good standing for two years. This does mean that the service cannot be disconnected voluntarily, nor can the service contract be terminated due to negligence on the part of the customer. There is an early termination fee if the customer wishes to end service prior to the expiration of the contract.

Customers have the option to select a phone and a service plan without a contractual agreement, but the customer must pay for the phone. This can be either a one-time payment of the cost of the phone upfront or a monthly fee added to the phone bill that equates to the retail cost of the phone over two years.
