According to scientists at Iowa State University, it is possible for a person to live with one lung, although they will face some challenges in their lives due to having a reduced ability to bring oxygen into the body. With one lung, respiratory performance is reduced due to lower oxygen capacity in the body.

People with cancer and those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, commonly known as COPD, may need to undergo surgery to remove a diseased lung. In turn, they are required to live life with only one lung.

It can make physical activities, such as walking to the mailbox or mowing the lawn, more difficult than with two lungs. However, being aware of these limitations and adapting life will make it easier to enjoy life with just one lung. Pope Francis is an example of someone who is living a normal life with one lung.
