Can You Paint Over Marble?

Marble that is deteriorated, cracked, worn or just not right for a particular design scenario can be painted over. However, certain conditions must be met, and planning must be done very carefully before deciding to paint marble.

One condition that is extremely important is the location of the marble to be painted. If the marble is located in a place that is susceptible to high amounts of moisture or water, the marble should not be painted. Marble with a high level of direct contact during use also should not be painted. A urethane-based primer should be used before providing the topcoat. Both marble tiles as well as marble slabs can be painted.
