There is no legal procedure for changing a signature, according to Forbes. Typically, an individual’s signature matches among various documents, including driver’s licenses, credit card signature panels and tax returns. Individuals changing a signature should attempt to keep it consistent for identification purposes, Forbes advises.

A signature is a depiction of someone’s name that is handwritten, notes Wikipedia. An “X” alone can stand as an individual’s authorized signature. The person who writes a signature is known as a signer or signatory for legal documents. Signatures are different than autographs, which are artistically written versions of signatures by famous people for commemorative purposes. Some public figures sign an autograph differently than a signature for privacy reasons.
