According to WebMD, other symptoms of hypothyroidism include dry skin and cracking nails. The condition can also cause hair to become coarser. Patients may experience fatigue and cold sensitivity. Women may experience interruption of periods.
The disease is sometimes confused with other conditions, such as depression or dementia, due to shared symptoms. It can also be confused with signs of aging. Occasionally, hypothyroidism occurs after pregnancy, though it usually disappears within a few months, according to WebMD.
