Gallbladder disease, or dysfunctional gallbladder, is caused due to repeated episodes of inflammation and gallstones that leave the gallbladder rigid and scarred, according to Everyday Health. Symptoms vary considerably depending on the type of gallbladder problem that is occurring. Some other common side effects of gallbladder disease include severe abdominal pain, pain that worsens after eating, dull and crampy pain in the right or upper middle area of the abdomen, vomiting, nausea and fever. Jaundice, which is a yellowing of the skin and eyes, and stools that have a light, clay color are also symptoms of gallbladder disease.

In some cases, gallstones, often a precursor to gallbladder disease, cause no symptoms at all, according to Everyday Health. In these instances, the gallstones are often only discovered when an X-ray for is performed for another condition. If any symptoms of gallbladder disease occur, it is important to visit a doctor promptly to seek treatment.
