Can You Control a Hampton Bay Fan With an IPhone?

In order to control a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with an iPhone, owners must install a Bluetooth receiver that installs inside the fan. Once he installs the receiver, the user pairs it with the iPhone to set the fan speed or turn on the fan and light kit.

The Bluetooth conversion kits for ceiling fans cost between $100 and $110, as of March 2015. They fit any fan with a three-speed pull chain switch. If the fan does not have a light, the less expensive kit works. Installation is simple, but it requires removing the bonnet or light kit from the bottom of the fan and working with electricity. In many applications, the installer must use a step ladder to access the fan.

Apps are available to allow an iPhone user to control many different Bluetooth enabled devices. The phone has the ability to connect to a computer, DVD player or home security system using the correct app. Connecting to an AppleTV allows the phone to replace the small one that Apple supplies with the device. Once the devices connect, the phone becomes a universal remote. One of the suggested uses of older iPhones that consumers replace is as a replacement device for a lost or no longer functioning remote.
