How Can You Check the Status of a Green Card?
Individuals waiting for a U.S. green card may check the status through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website. The agency notes that applicants can get online updates of where they are in the process, from application through production of the card.
“Green card” is an informal name for a U.S. Permanent Resident Card, according to Wikipedia. An individual who is authorized to work and live permanently in the United States has an immigration status of “lawful permanent residency.” The holder of the green card must carry the physical card as proof of being a lawful permanent resident. Failure to carry the green card violates the Immigration and Nationality Act and has possible penalties of a fine up to $100 and imprisonment up to 30 days. The federal government can revoke green cards under certain circumstances.
