How Can You Buy Kim’s Chicken Cracklins?
Kim’s Country Fried Chicken Cracklins can be purchased in plain or BBQ flavor from ChickenCracklins.com. Kim’s is a Clarksdale, Mississippi, food processor that originated chicken cracklins in 1985, when a customer said he could no longer eat pork cracklings on medical advice, according to the Clarksdale Press Register. A variation on traditional pork cracklins, chicken cracklins are made from rendered chicken fat and skin.
Kim’s Cracklins are cooked in woks in the processing plant and come in pork and chicken varieties. The company does not have retail locations. American Wholesale Distributors, a Memphis, Tennessee, distributor, ships Kim’s products only in packages of 18 or 36 bags. Other than by American Wholesale, Kim’s cracklins are not available for sale on the Internet and can only be purchased in stores that carry their products or directly from the Processing Plant. As of 2003, stores from as far away as Las Vegas stock Kim’s products, but cracklins are mainly sold regionally in the Southern United States.
Kim’s has been featured on two national food-focused television shows. Al Roker visited the processing plant during a “Roker on the Road” trip to the Mississippi Delta for the Food Network, and Andrew Zimmern included Kim’s as a stop on the “Blues Trail” episode of the Travel Channel’s “Bizarre Foods.”
