Break-fix is a reactionary business model that relies on the repair of an IT system only when computer equipment fails, the network stops functioning or software programs are not working. Break-fix support is the most expensive form of maintenance.

When IT equipment fails, business productivity is lost and the profit bottom line is affected, according to SC Tech Company. A better option for IT maintenance is to enter into a preventive maintenance plan that eliminates the need for break-fix calls. The IT system is remotely monitored, which makes services such as installing updates to an operating system, establishing and monitoring security parameters, overseeing network operations and correcting problems before they interrupt productivity easier and less expensive to accomplish.
