Some brands of beer that contain rice are Budweiser, Bud Light and Rolling Rock Red. In the United States, rice ranks as the second most used supplemental ingredient in brewing light-colored beers.
In brewery, malting is a method of changing insoluble sugar to soluble sugar, breaking down proteins and providing a food source for the growth of yeast and enzymes. Rice is usually added to beer because its basic lack of flavor does not affect the beer’s malt content. However, rice needs to be cooked separately from the other ingredients due to its extreme gelatinization temperature. Other ingredients for beer include water, corn, hops, wheat, grits and oats.
