According to the CIA World Factbook, there are approximately 1.014 men for every 1 woman on Earth, meaning there are slightly more boys than girls. At birth, the ratio is approximately 1.07 males to each female, but the shorter lifespan of males reduces that advantage slightly.
Gender ratios may be substantially different in different countries. For instance, there are 0.97 men for every woman in America, giving females a slight population advantage. Population controls in China have given that country a surplus of men, with 1.06 males to each female. The United Arab Emirates is decidedly male-dominated, with 2.19 men for each woman.
