The safe blood sugar level for adults with Type 1 diabetes varies according to the time of testing and ranges from 70 to 180 milligrams per deciliter, according to the American Diabetes Association. JRDF suggests limiting the higher end of the range to 160 milligrams per deciliter.
Safe pre-meal glucose levels range from 70 to 130 milligrams per deciliter, states WebMD. Glucose levels taken within two hours after a meal should be below 180 milligrams per deciliter. At bedtime and before exercise, the blood sugar level should be above 100 milligrams per deciliter. Fasting blood sugar levels, those levels taken after the individual has had nothing to eat or drink for at least eight hours, should be less than 100 milligrams per deciliter.
